Seek the Bread of Life

Seek the Bread of Life

John 6:22-34

Main Idea: Seek Jesus as the only one who can satisfy the hunger of your soul.

I. Are You Curious about Jesus? (6:22-24)

Colossians 1:16-17: For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

“You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it rests in you.”

~ Augustine, Confessions

II. Are You Seeking Jesus? (6:25-27)

“They had not reflected on the spiritual significance of the sign they had seen…They were moved not by full hearts, but by full bellies.” ~ Leon Morris, The Gospel According to John

“It's called selfism, the fastest growing religion. They just dress it up and call it "Christian.” Don't be deceived by this funny biz. If you come to Jesus for money, then He's not your God, money is! Jesus is not a means to an end. The Gospel is He came to redeem us from sin. And that is the message, forever I yell. If you're living your best life now you're headed for hell!” ~ Shai Linne, “Fal$e Teachers”

“The Lord Jesus, we should never forget, is still the same….He reads the secret motives of all who profess and call themselves Christians. He knows exactly why they do all they do in their religion. The reasons why they go to church….all are naked and opened to the eyes of the great Head of the Church.” ~ J.C. Ryle Expository Thoughts on the Gospels: John, 3 Vols.

III. Do You Believe in Jesus? (6:28-34)

1 Peter 1:23: Faith does not come from seeing but believing the Word of God.

“We must read our Bibles, like men digging for hidden treasures. We must wrestle earnestly in prayer, like men contending with a deadly enemy for life. We must take our whole heart to the house of God, and worship and hear like those who listen to the reading of a will. We must fight daily against sin, the world, and the devil, like those who fight for liberty….This is “labouring”. This is the secret of getting on about our souls.”

~ J.C. Ryle, Expository Thoughts on the Gospels: John, 3 vols.

Philippians 3:8: Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.
